Sixteenth-Century Hebrew Books at the Library of Congress

List of Bibles

The materials in the Sixteenth-Century Hebrew Books collection are divided into 3 sections: General Titles; Bibles (this list); and Talmudim.

The following titles link to fuller bibliographic information in the Library of Congress Online Catalog. Links to additional online content are included when available.

  1. In order to be consistent, titles are listed alphabetically, without the word ספר at the beginning, and without the definite article ה. Example: to find the title ספר המוסר, search under “מוסר”.
  2. A number of books have multiple titles (both formal and informal), and for this reason many titles are also cross-referenced. Example: the Karaite prayer book known familiarly by the title of מנחת יהודה (Venice, 1528/1529) is cross-referenced with its more formal title: סדור התפלות למנהג קהל הקראים
  3. Books without call numbers have not yet been catalogued by the Library of Congress, but are still available to readers in the Hebraic Section of the Library.
Advance appointment (5 business days) is necessary to view items in the Hebraic rare book collection. Please use the African and Middle Eastern Division’s Ask-a-Librarian online inquiry form to schedule an appointment.
