This bibliography was compiled from the text of Dr. Samuel A. Floyd's article "Ruminations on the Center for Black Music Research: The 2008 Trotter Lecture External" (College Music Symposium, vol. 49/50 (2009-2010), pp. 9-17, in which he discusses the chronology of Black Music research from 1867 to the 1990s. Dr. Floyd was the founder of the Center for Black Music Research and one of the pioneers of African-American scholarship. The resources in the bibliography are organized in the order they appear in Dr. Floyd's article, which is available online through the JSTOR subscription database; see more information below.
