Albanian Collections at the Library of Congress

Digital Resources

The Library of Congress's electronic resources for Albania are more limited in scope than print ones. Nevertheless, different types of electronic materials are being added every year. Digitized versions of photographs, maps, rare books and other public domain materials appear on the main Library of Congress website using the search box at the upper right to locate materials and limit by material type.

The Library does not subscribe to any full-text databases for Albania specifically. However, some scholarly journals appear in the subscription databases like Central and East European Online Library, JSTOR, Project Muse, and ProQuest Research Library. These databases and others are described in the section of this guide titled Onsite Only Electronic Resources. Although the contents of the various databases may be accessed only onsite, prior to a visit you can search the Library of Congress Electronic Resources Catalog from offsite to discover which databases and e-journals we offer.

In addition to onsite resources, researchers may be aided in their work through openly available resources. These range from the online catalogs of Albanian libraries, as well as open-access databases devoted to specific topics concerning Albanian studies.

In 2021 the Library of Congress began transitioning away from preservation microfilming and towards digitization of Albanian newspapers. All digitized newspapers and other rights restricted electronic content are available via Stacks, an onsite-only platform for accessing rights restricted digital content. The Albanian newspapers that can be accessed in this format are described in the section of this guide titled Stacks.

Lastly, the Library of Congress has been web archiving a number of Albanian government and political websites since 2014. The web archiving content from Albania is described in the section of this guide titled Web Archiving.
