Amy Beach: A Guide to Primary and Secondary Resources at the Library of Congress

Published Music

This page describes how to locate published editions of Amy Beach's music, including printed editions that have been digitized and made available to view and download through the Library's Digital Collections.

How to Search for Published Music

The Music Division's collections include published scores for most of Amy Beach's compositions. Much of her published music lists her married name: "Mrs. H. H. A. Beach." In 1885 she married Dr. Henry Harris Aubrey Beach, a Boston surgeon. Dr. Beach encouraged Amy Beach to pursue composition over a performance career.

Find published scores by searching in the Library of Congress Online Catalog using Library of Congress Classification Schedule. Request and view non-digitized items in the Performing Arts Reading Room.

Digitized Sheet Music

Many editions of piano-vocal sheet music and choral music written by Beach have been scanned and are available on the Library's website. Searching using "Amy Beach" and limiting to "Notated Music" will not find all of the digitized music available on the Library's website. Searching using "Mrs H H A Beach" includes more comprehensive results.
