Library of Congress (LC) ArchivesPublished/Created: 1800-2015
Historical records of the Library of Congress include documentation of the preservation of primary source materials and, especially after 1897, the development of the archival profession. The Manuscript Division series, 1897-1989, is an important source for this study, including records of the Foreign Copying Program, beginning 1905, to collect transcriptions of important American History records in archival collections outside the United States. The Consultants and Fellows series, 1917-1973, includes files on the scholars and historians whose work the Library of Congress supported.
