It includes over 10,000 rare titles (170,000 volumes) published from the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC) to the Republican period (1911-1949) in China covering various subjects such as Chinese classics, history, literature, local gazetteers, Qing Dynasty archives, encyclopedias, dictionaries, reference books, etc. In addition to full-text search, the database features image display of the original text, which allows scholars to study different editions of Chinese classics.

Founded in 1902, Da Gong Bao was a heavyweight newspaper in modern China. In 1941, it was awarded the title of "Best Journalism Service Award" by the Missouri School of Journalism. This was the first and only time that a Chinese newspaper won this award. It is also a Chinese-language newspaper that continues the modern era. The Da Gong Bao full-text database ( 1902 to 1949) contains all the layouts and texts published during the Republic of China, including Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, Hankou, Guilin and Hong Kong. It contains more than 2 million news items and more than 200,000 high-resolution images.

Guangming Ribao, a central newspaper of the Peoples Republic of China, has been reporting national news for over 60 years. The full-image and full-text Guangming Ribao Digital Archive gives comprehensive insight into developments in China in the 20th and into the 21st centuries.

Guangming Ribao, launched on June 16, 1949 by the China Democratic League, originally represented the eight minority democratic parties in China. In 1957, the newspaper reported widely on the various forums critical of the Communist Party which followed Mao Zedongs call to let one hundred flowers bloom. People's Daily, the official voice of the central government of the Peoples Republic of China for over 70 years, is the most influential and authoritative newspaper in China. The paper was established in 1946, and has been based in Beijing since 1949. Published daily in Chinese, the newspaper (Renmin Ribao) is where the central government and the Communist Party of China announce their respective policies and disseminate governmental, political, and economic messages to the public and the world.

From the Encyclopedia Britannica: Renmin Ribao carries serious, politically oriented articles and numerous speeches and reports by government or party leaders. News about these leaders is always carried on the front page. The newspapers contents reflect official policy, and it is read throughout China by many times its circulation, which by the end of the 20th century was about three million. Before the 1980s, copies of the paper were posted for public view in display cases at street intersections, and articles were frequently read at local party meetings, reprinted in local newspapers, or quoted in Radio Beijing programs. Village schools often placed quotations from the paper on bulletin boards.

Renmin Ribao editorials deal with such subjects as politics and culture, communist theory and philosophy, and Marxist economics. In the days of the Cultural Revolution, they reflected the anti-intellectual climate of that period after Mao Zedongs death, the editorials exposed the activities of the Gang of Four and pointed the way to the pragmatic policies of Maos successors. More social and economic news has appeared in the paper since that time. Regional editions carrying some local news have been available since the 1990s. An overseas edition has been published since 1985, and in 1997 an Internet version of the paper was created, with translations in Russian, French, English, and Arabic.

Shen Bao known in English as Shanghai News, was a newspaper published from April 30, 1872 to May 27, 1949 in Shanghai, China. Founded by Ernest Major (1841-1908), a British businessman, in 1872, Shen Bao was one of the first modern Chinese newspapers. It was the only Chinese newspaper in Shanghai until the appearance of Xin Bao in 1876 and Hu Bao in 1882 and it played a pivotal role in the formation of public opinion in the late 19th century. This full-text searchable database covers the entire run of the newspaper from 1872 to 1949 including the entire short runs of the Wuhan and Hong Kong editions. In addition to the newspaper texts, this product also includes all the advertisements. Local gazetteers in China are a unique archival resource, documenting various kinds of information about different local regions in China, information like historical revolutions, geographical situations, administrative systems, populations, government revenues, product resources, catastrophes, surviving documents and local customs. Local gazetteers play an irreplaceable role in studying the Chinese national situation and its historical culture.

The local gazetteer collections in Zhongguo Fang Zhi Ku are generally classified as two types: Provincial and content based series: Provincial series has 32 volumes covering provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions. The content based series is divided into five categories according to the content of the collected almanacs. One of the five series is reserved for national general records, various special journals, magazines, and foreign records. The rest of series are divided among provinces, prefectures and county prefectures.

Based on Erudition's unique digital-reconstruction technology, every record is excellently reconstructed to retain all the information and original images, which comprises a total of more than 2 billion words, more than 10 million pages of images and texts, and the total amount of information is about 350G. At the same time, the database is equipped with a distinctive retrieval system and a complete functional platform that enable information to be quickly retrieved from four paths: classified search, area search, item search, and full-text search. The system also allows functions such as comparison of different versions of rare books, punctuation annotation, etc.

Zhong yang ri bao, the Central Daily News, was the official newspaper of the Kuomintang and is one of the world's oldest Chinese-language newspapers, having been in circulation since 1928. The Kuomintang made the decision to temporarily cease publication of the newspaper effective June 1, 2006. Currently the newspaper is online only.

Zi Lin Yang Hang (The North-China Daily News & Herald, Limited) was the most important and largest British-founded press agency in Shanghai in the 1800s. As an important part of the historical archives, the database not only vividly revealed the history, but also enriches the digital newspaper resources, providing valuable materials for the study of modern China.
