Newspapers are a great way to follow the evolution of the bicycle. Bicycles were actually quite revolutionary-and during the 1890's especially newspapers included significant coverage of bicycles.

Search Historic Newspapers at the Library of Congress:

  • Chronicling America. You can freely search this collection of digitized newspapers anywhere with an internet connection. For example, I searched for "Annie Londonderry" and got a number of results related to the famed female round-the-world cyclist.
  • Search Digital Collections that include Historical Newspapers.
  • Search and Request Printed + Bound Newspapers
  • Search and Request titles on Microfilm.
  • On-site visitors, ask for recommendations on Databases & Digital Collections
