Reproductions of Admiralty Office records in the Public Record Office (now The National Archives), 1688-1860, chiefly relate to the Colonial and Revolutionary War periods and the War of 1812. They include incoming and outgoing correspondence, logbooks, journals, musters, reports, despatches, and orders. Topics include British military readiness, Admiralty courts and their jurisdiction, legal matters, the French and Indian War, military engagements, piracy, slavery, trade, taxation, smuggling, and captured ships. The collection chiefly relates to North America, particularly the Eastern seaboard and the West Indies.
