The early records of the Secretary of State's office relating to the internal affairs of Great Britain are found in State Papers, Domestic. The documents classed as Home Office Papers date from 1782 when the Home Department was established with its own Principal Secretary. The papers in this collection include the primary incoming series of correspondence to the Home Office dated 1782 to 1820. The records include various letters, reports, and memos sent to the Home Office from magistrates, other officials, and private individuals. The reproductions in this collection relate to American history, 1762-1795.
Descriptions of the holdings can be found in the shelflist, and further description is available on The National Archives (UK) website, both of which are linked below. The Home Office records are available digitally through a subscription database, and others are freely accessible digitally on The National Archives website.
