Regional Statistics

The regional statistical publications listed below include only titles held by the Library of Congress. Although bibliographies of Bulgarian statistical publications do not reflect the extent of publishing in this area, searches in the COBISS online catalog External, which includes holdings from the National Library in Sofia, show that more volumes of regional annuals were published, albeit with slightly differing titles. For example, the Library of Congress holds only the 1959/1963 volume on Sliven, but the National Library in Sofia has additional volumes for 1971 and 1996/2001. The website of the National Statistical Institute has a page entitled Регионална статистика (Regional Statistics) External devoted to regional statistics, with data and publications from approximately 2007 through 2017.

Given that these regional titles are published sporadically, and are not widely held in the United States, the national-level and census publications are the best sources for published regional data. According to the introduction, it aims to show regional disparities "in order to develop a consistent regional policy according to the [sic] European requirements." It is issued every five years.

This is the first statistical annual ever published covering only Sofia. In fact, it covers only one part of Sofia okrug, Zlatitsa. The volume opens with an overview of Zlatitsa and its naseleni mesta (Bunovo, Gorno Kamartsi, Dolno Kamartsi, Etropol, Zlatitsa, Kamenitsa, Karlievo, Kelavo Kamartsi, Klisekoi i Kolanlari, Mirkovo, Pirdop, Smolsko, Strugel, Chelopech). These overviews discuss the economic situation and provide data. The second half of the book has statistical tables showing information on such topics as land use, the number of various livestock, and buildings.
