This is the main journal publication of the Center for Population Studies in Bulgaria. The journal publishes research by its staff related to theory, historical demography, economic demography, ethnodemography, and demographic behavior. Examples of articles include "Marital patterns in Romany communities" and "The impact of the main causes of death on life potential of males and females in Bulgaria." There are both Bulgarian and English tables of contents.

This volume covers the elderly in Bulgaria, with data going back to the 19th-century. Although it is not a primary resource, it relies heavily on primary data, and is written by a researcher at the Research Institute for Statistics in Sofia.

Although this is not a primary source, it is one of the few publications that tries to estimate Bulgarian population during the time of the Ottoman Empire, namely for the 17th century. The author uses sources such as registers, Ottoman taxation records, Catholic chronicles and correspondence, results of archaeological excavations, observations of travelers and diplomats, and onomastic publications.

Although this is not a primary resource, it discusses a little known event, the 1879 census of Bulgaria by the Russkoe grazhdanskoe upravlenie v Bolgarii [Russian Civil Administration in Bulgaria] after the end of the Russo-Turkish War, by which Bulgaria gained its independence from the Ottoman Empire. This census took place two years before the first Bulgarian government census of 1881. The results of this census have not been published, but they are evaluated in this work. The publication is in Russian.
