Compiled by one of Bulgaria's most renowned bibliographers, Nikola Mikhov (1877–1962), this five-volume catalog is hard to categorize. It is an annotated bibliography of publications about population in Bulgaria and Turkey, and at the same time, it is a source for the data, because Mikhov extracted relevant statistics from the sources cited and republished them in his catalog. Indexes of personal names and geographic and ethnographic terms appear in every volume. Each volume presents works in a particular language or group of languages. The first three volumes contain citations of French, German and English sources, while the fourth volume focuses on maps and other iconographic materials. Volume 5 has only selected Russian-language sources. Mikhov intended to continue his work on Russian sources by visiting Russian libraries, but ill-health prevented any further research. Mikhov compiled his bibliographies based on the collections of major libraries in Germany, France, Switzerland, and other countries of Western Europe. He concentrated on Bulgarica in western European languages, as Bulgarian libraries at the time did not have research-level collections of foreign works, and he knew these materials needed to be brought to the attention of Bulgarian scholars. Bulgarian-language publications are not included. The more than 3,000 entries for both articles and books are organized alphabetically, by main entry.

Marriages, divorces, births, and deaths are the main topics covered in this work. Published since 1889, with annual volumes covering every year since 1881 and a few combination volumes such as 1913-1917 and 1918-1920, this work provides essential vital statistics for Bulgaria for over half a century. This publication has undergone many minor title changes over the years, not all of which are listed above. Beginning with 1896 and continuing through 1912, there were two volumes per year, one listing data by okrug and okoliia, and the other by towns and villages (naseleni mesta). Some of the figures are given by religion: Greek Orthodox, Muslim, Jewish, Armeno-Gregorian, Catholic, and Protestant. Some of the volumes have tables for cause of death. This title is printed in French and Bulgarian.

Published for only three years, this title complements the one listed above, Dvizhenie na naselenieto v Bulgarskoto kniazhestvo. It lists births, deaths, and marriages for the same time period covered in the title above, but it puts all the data into one chart, while the above title has separate sections for each time period. A scholar interested in this time period should use both publications, because the numbers themselves, not just the presentation, are slightly different. The volume for 1893 also has a unique feature -- it lists all marriages occurring in Bulgaria from April 4–11, 1893, by locality, and it gives the names of the couples as well as their religion, occupation, and literacy status. This is the only demographic publication described in this guide that contains the names of individuals. The 1893 volume also commemorates the marriage of the Bulgarian tsar in April 1893 to Maria Luisa, with biographies and portraits of both, and fold-out genealogical charts for the tsar and his bride. The publication is in both Bulgarian and French.

This volume has numbers on divorces by okoliia and okrug. The tables show the number of divorces by profession, cause of divorce, and length of marriage. The text is in both Bulgarian and French.

Mortality and the cause of death are the subjects of these two volumes. In addition to many tables of figures, there is quite a lot of textual explanation for mortality in Bulgaria. These volumes are bilingual in Bulgarian and French.

This annual provides updated population statistics for age and gender by okrug, and vital statistics for deaths, marriages, divorces, births, etc. by month of the year, age, education, etc. It also contains internal migration data. These volumes compiled several decades of population data from censuses beginning with 1934; they provide population numbers only by oblast, obshtina, and naseleni mesta.

This source is interesting because, as part of its prognosis, it discusses phenomena such as Turkish migration out of Bulgaria and religion, by region. Religion as a category had been eliminated from the Bulgarian censuses after the 1934 census, and was reinstated only with the 1992 census. This publication dates from the time of the reintroduction.

This publication is a continuation of Naselenie, listed above under the entry for Statistika na dvizhenieto na naselenieto v NR Bulgariia za perioda 1947-1959. Vital statistics are the subject of this annual. It includes both national and regional figures for births, deaths, marriages, divorces, and internal migration. For comparison, there is also a brief section on international vital statistics. It is printed in both English and Bulgarian. This title is no longer being published in print as of 2009. Instead, it is available electronically on the National Statistical Institute website or via CD-ROM
