Compiled by specialists in Business Reference Services at the Library of Congress, the focus of this guide is on U.S. and international news sources for business research. Most general news sources will include coverage of both U.S. and international business news events, however national coverage is usually more robust. Major international business news sources are included throughout this guide where appropriate, but you made need to adopt more specific search strategies to find regional coverage. See the Search the Library's Catalog page of this guide for tips on how to use the Library Catalog to find regional publications.
Business news is most often published in newspapers and magazines, both in print and online. The scope of these publications is often broad, focusing on large issues and events affecting the worlds of business, finance, commerce, etc. On the other hand, trade publications focus on specific industries and may offer business-related news content that effects that industry directly. Keep in mind that while trade publications will often contain news, they are generally not published as frequently as news-focused magazines and newspapers. Industry guides can help you identify trade publications within your industry.
In addition to the Library's print collections, subscription resources and publisher websites are included in this guide. Publisher websites range from open access content to articles only available behind pay walls. If you are conducting research at the Library of Congress, we recommend beginning your search with subscription resources as they provide more search functionalities and can provide full-text access.
If you wish to search a specific newspaper title, conduct research in a particular language, or have additional business research questions, you can Ask-A-Business Librarian via email from anywhere in the world.
