To get a fuller picture of the industry it may prove useful to do research on the history of the individual companies and brands.  Some have been written about in books and articles, but also look a company websites for active brands.

We have included general books on the history of cosmetics to assist those looking at the business of beauty with the broader picture and historic trends. The history of the industry cannot be told without attention paid to the innovators so we have also included biographies of some of the people involved in moving the industry forward.
