Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps
The Sanborn map collection consists of a uniform series of large-scale maps, dating from 1867 to the present and depicting the commercial, industrial, and residential sections of some twelve thousand cities and towns in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The Geography and Map Division holds Sanborn maps of 21 cities and towns in Alaska.
This searchable database includes records for the entire collection of Sanborn fire insurance maps, including bound and unbound maps as well as microfilm reels, in the custody of the Geography and Map Division. The online platform also contains links to existing digital images from our collection and will be updated as new images are added.
All public domain Sanborn Fire Insurance maps have been digitized and are available online (with the exception of some from 1923-1928). Sheets that are still under copyright restriction are not available online.
