The topoView tool shows the many and varied older maps of each area, and so is especially useful for historical purposes—for example, the names of some natural and cultural features have changed over time, and the historical names can be found on many of these topographic maps.

Alaska's Digital Archives presents a wealth of historical photographs, albums, oral histories, moving images, maps, documents, physical objects, and other materials from archives, museums and libraries throughout our state.

The Alaska Historical Society (AHS) is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization dedicated to the promotion of Alaska history by the exchange of ideas and information, the preservation and interpretation of resources, and the education of Alaskans about their heritage. Their website features a list of research resources focused on Alaska.

The Alaska State Library promotes and coordinates library services to the community of Alaskan libraries, serves as the primary research library for state government, and collects, preserves, and makes accessible Alaska-related materials. The map collection consists of atlases, Alaska-related historical maps such as Sanborn maps, older nautical charts, and state election districts.
