Many immigrants joined associations of family names, locations, and professions to help themselves succeed in their new homes. Look for the names of relatives on the rolls of these kinds of associations. Associations were formed to provide community to those born with important Chinese names, and those who associate with that name. If your ancestors were members of associations, you may find their name on its rosters. Lists and rosters can provide information about your ancestors' lives and their associates.
