Many social and cultural developments influenced clothing of the 20th Century, forward, including the establishment of catalog sales, the development of brand-name clothings, and the proliferation of department stores, among others. Social developments such as war, politics, and migration patterns influence clothing, dress, and fashion. The majority of works in the first section covers the development of clothing and fashion for women, but some resources address clothing for everyone including men and children. The section on menswear provides resources for the development of dress and costume for men across all eras. The section on accessories includes hats, shoes, handbags, and other accessories of dress. Other works found in these sections address such issues as gender and LGBTQ+ works, social protest clothing, and sustainable fashion.
