Croatian Newspapers in the Library of Congress

Online Newspapers from Croatia

Bains News Service. Fiume - canal. [between ca. 1915 and ca. 1920]. Library of Congress Prints & Photographs Division.

The Library of Congress has the latest three months of several online newspapers from Croatia, but provides almost no historical depth in the Croatian digital news realm. News sources such as Internet portals, news magazines, and newswires are available through the four subscription databases described below, but with the exception of titles in PressReader, most of the sources are in English.

Fortunately, some European libraries have started to digitize historical Croatian newspapers and have made them freely available. Such sites are described below in the section on Digitized Newspapers. Because Croatia was once part of the multi-ethnic Austro-Hungarian Empire, sites and catalogs from Austria and other former Empire countries may contain relevant material.

Of particular importance is the portal of digitized newspapers Stare hrvatske novine. External
