This section outlines the Music Division's holdings of correspondence in the hand of Darius Milhaud, as well as typed correspondence from Milhaud to other prominent figures such as Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge. Also included in this section is the holograph manuscript of Milhaud's autobiography Notes sans musique. The Music Division received the manuscript from Milhaud as a gift in 1964. The correspondence offers unique insight into Milhaud's commissioning and compositional networks, conducting and teaching engagements, and travel itineraries in the years leading up to and including his emigration to the United States.
