Interview conducted by Renee Poussaint.
The interview includes Edward Brooke's memories of growing up in Washington, D.C., attending Howard University and joining the army during World War II. He recalls attending Boston University Law School, his early career as a lawyer and his unsuccessful run for Massachusetts Secretary of State. He discusses his work as Attorney General of Massachusetts and as U.S. Senator, his identity as an African American Republican and supporting several civil rights bills.
The Edward W. Brooke Collection of film and video materials relating to his political career, 1963-1978

The Edward W. Brooke Collection is comprised of government and commercially produced works and unedited footage. Most of the materials relate to Brooke's political career as opposed to his personal and professional lives. There is unedited footage of his being sworn in as Massachusetts attorney general in 1963. The majority of the film and video dates from 1966 to 1968, during which time he ran for, was elected senator from Massachusetts and served his first term. There is unedited footage of the Massachusetts Republican State Convention of 1966, at which Brooke was nominated to be the party's senatorial candidate. There are three different versions of the same political spot for his senatorial campaign, which were shown on television and in movie theaters, and a thirty-minute campaign film, Assignment--E.W.B., which was aired on television.
