A multi-institutional collaborative project funded by the Mellon Foundation to enhance the study of the history and culture of the ancient Near East. Contains collection of the earliest written texts (cuneiform, hieroglyphs, and alphabets) in digitized form, archaeological site reports, a guide to networked open access data relevant to the study and public presentation of the Ancient Near East and the Ancient Mediterranean world (ABZU), and a Web repository for translations of Akkadian materials (eTACT).

This website tells the story of Mohamed Ali Eltaher (also known by his traditional Arab nickname, Aboul-Hassan). It is also the story of his wife. It provides the sources and references needed for those who are interested to learn more about him, and, more importantly, to learn about the history of the Near East and North Africa between 1912 and 1974, and the political and historical issues of the countries spanning from Morocco to Iraq, and from Syria to Indonesia. Those who know Egypt through the writings of Lawrence Durrell and Konstantin Kavafi and other famous Western writers, will be able to have a glimpse of that side of Egypt these talented writers did not write about.

In June 2005, Librarian of Congress James H. Billington proposed establishing a World Digital Library to UNESCO. Four years later, the World Digital Library (WDL) was launched to the international public. The WDL makes available on the Internet, free of charge and in multilingual format, significant primary source materials from cultures around the world.Featuring high-quality digital items reflecting the cultural heritage of all UNESCO member countries, WDL includes manuscripts, maps, rare books, musical scores, recordings, films, prints, photographs, architectural drawings, and other significant cultural artifacts. The WDL interface is available in seven languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. The objectives of the WDL are to promote international and inter-cultural understanding and awareness, provide resources to educators, expand non-English and non-Western content on the Internet, and to contribute to scholarly research.

The Confidential Print series, issued by the Foreign and Colonial Offices since around 1820, is one of the most important series produced by the British Government (The National Archives, Kew). It originated out of a need for the Government to preserve all of the most important papers generated by the Foreign and Colonial Offices. Some of these were one-page letters or telegrams others were large volumes or texts of treaties. All items marked Confidential Print were printed and circulated immediately to leading officials in the Foreign Office, to the Cabinet and to heads of British missions abroad. Covering such important events as the Egyptian reforms of Muhammad Ali Pasha in the nineteenth century, the Middle East Conference of 1921, the Mandates for Palestine and Mesopotamia and the Suez Crisis in 1956, to the partition of Palestine, post-Suez Western foreign policy and the Arab-Israeli conflict, Confidential Print: Middle East is a fundamental resource for academics, students and researchers studying the modern Middle East. Regions covered include: the Arabian peninsula, the Levant, Iraq, Turkey and many of the former Ottoman lands in Europe, Iran, Afghanistan, Egypt and Sudan. The resource also features 300 color maps, a number of them previously separated from their parent files at The National Archives but cross-referenced with those files here for ease of scholarly use.

Early Arabic Printed Books from the British Library (1475-1900) is the first full-text searchable digital library of early printed books in Arabic script. Covering religious literature, law, science, mathematics, astrology, alchemy, medicine, geography, travel, history, chronicles, and literature, and including European translations of Arabic works and Arabic translations of European books, it exemplifies the long exchange of ideas and learning between Europe and the Arabic-speaking world.

Scholars can search on the full text of items in Arabic, English, French, German, Latin, Italian, Dutch and Spanish while also being able to discover content in Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Ottoman Turkish, Persian, Syriac and more. Early Arabic Printed Books from the British Library supports comparative approaches to the study of the Middle East and the Muslim world and inspires original research on Islamic religion, history, language, literature, philosophy and science. The collection will become an essential resource for every major library in the Middle East and institutions world-wide needing primary source material in Arabic for research, teaching and learning.

JSTOR is a collection of full-text, keyword-searchable academic journals dating back to the late 17th century. Some of the Life Sciences titles date to the 1600's, while many of the Arts & Science titles begin in the late 1800's.
