The Biodiversity Heritage Library (BHL) is a consortium of 12 natural history and botanical libraries that cooperate to digitize and make accessible the legacy literature of biodiversity held in their collections and to make that literature available for open access and responsible use as a part of a global biodiversity commons. BHL also serves as the foundational literature component of the Encyclopedia of Life (EOL).

Bioinfo Publications is a rapidly growing academic publisher with more than 300 Open Access peer-reviewed journals covering all major areas of science, technology, medicine. Bioinfo Publications open-access articles are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author and source are credited. Botanicus is a freely accessible portal to digitized full-text historic botanical literature from the Missouri Botanical Garden Library. With over 6,000 books and 40 journals, the selection of digitized material focuses primarily on beautifully illustrated volumes from the Garden Library's rare book collection.

The Macaulay Library archive at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology is the world's largest and oldest scientific archive of biodiversity audio and video recordings. Analog recordings, going back to 1929, have now been digitized and can be experienced at this site. The collection contains nearly 150,000 digital audio recordings equaling more than 10 terabytes of data with a total run time of 7,513 hours. About 9,000 species are represented. Theres an emphasis on birds, but the collection also includes sounds of whales, elephants, frogs, primates and more.

Current Contents Connect is a current awareness database that provides easy Web access to complete tables of contents, abstracts, bibliographic information, and abstracts from the most recently published issues of leading scholarly journals, as well as from more than 7,000 relevant, evaluated websites. The SORA project is a searchable open access electronic journal archive to the international ornithological literature. The database contains detailed material documenting the history of ornithology in North America over the last 120 years.

A database of all of the nomenclatural, bibliographic, and specimen data accumulated in MBGs electronic databases during the past 25 years are publicly available here. This system has over 1.2 million scientific names and 3.9 million specimen records.
