Environmental Law: A Beginner's Guide

State Laws

States often have their own agencies dedicated to environmental protection, and maintain their own legislative and regulatory frameworks. The resources below cover general environmental research at the state level, and provide starting points for general legal research at the state level. For research on a specific state, the Law Library of Congress has created research guides for all U.S. states and territories that list many resources for performing legal research. These research guides include links to state laws, regulations, and agencies. State environmental laws frequently interact with their counterparts at the federal level.

Below you will find a list of selected legal reference materials relating to state environmental law available in the Law Library's collection. Print materials specific to each state are available in the Law Library Reading Room.
