European Mission and Cooperative Acquisitions Project at the Library of Congress

Additional Resources

This page lists recently published books on Nazi-looted cultural materials located in post-World War II Germany. The books describe the work of a variety of organizations, both military and civilian, which discovered and attempted to return material found hidden in various locations including basements, mines and castles. The Library of Congress European Mission played a role in these operation, acting on behalf of American libraries, to acquire publications that were unavailable during the war, to restart the European book trade, and to assist the U.S. occupational government in Germany to remove Nazi-produced propaganda and Nazi-owned materials.
