Annual Reports of the European Division 1990-1992

Although only the first few years of the 1990s are provided in this guide, the history of the European Division recounted in the reports for 1990-1992 is evidence of the monumental changes in the European landscape with the fall of communism and the dissolution of the Communist Bloc, including the establishment of the Library of Congress Moscow Office in 1990.  Also of note is that in 1991 the division celebrated its 40th anniversary from its rebirth as a research and collection development center in 1951. The 1992 report proudly announced that the division had that year joined the INTERNET. All of these developments resulted in significant changes for the division in the ensuing decades. Reports from 1993 and forward are available in the Library of Congress Archives held in the Manuscript Reading Room. The chiefs of the European Division during the early 1990s were David H. Kraus (1990–1992) and Michael Haltzel (1992–1994).
