Beginning with the immediate pre World War II period, the staff of the European Reading Room and its precursor units engaged in the preparation of publications about the collections and acquisitions from the region for the Library of Congress and the country as a whole. The staff excelled, in particular, at producing reference works related to international publications to meet the needs of U.S. government analysts and the scholarly community.
