French Women & Feminists in History: A Resource Guide

Related Online Resources & Libraries

Paris and her Remarkable Women. By Lorraine Liscio (New York: The Little Bookroom, 2009). Library of Congress General Collections.

In an effort to supply one starting point for those looking for online-only sources, this page gathers the links to institutions, blogs, websites and digitized resources and divides them into historical periods. There are more primary digitized sources elsewhere — as indicated by the link — that take you to the page for that time period. That link will have a greater number of primary sources that have been digitized, whereas this page lists related online resources of all types.

Note for researchers: Many sources may be found free online by doing a title or author search in one of the following digital libraries:

HathiTrust External HathiTrust Digital Library is a digital preservation repository and highly functional access platform. HathiTrust provides long-term preservation and access services to digitized content from a variety of sources, including Google, the Internet Archive, Microsoft, and in-house member institution initiatives. Items in the public domain are in full-view for everyone and items held in copyright are searchable.

Internet Archive External The Internet Archive began in 1996 by archiving the Internet itself, a medium that was just beginning to grow in use. Like newspapers, the content published on the web was ephemeral - but unlike newspapers, no one was saving it. Today they have 26+ years of web history accessible through the Wayback Machine External and we work with 1,000+ library and other partners through our Archive-It External program to identify important web pages.

Gallica External Digital library of the Bibliothèque nationale de France focusing on the cultural history of France and French-speaking areas throughout the world. Contains numerous electronic texts, images, maps, animation, and sound files of French and other publications in history, literature, science, philosophy, law, economics, and political science.
