Introduction

The digital collections of the Library of Congress contain a variety of material associated with Franklin D. Roosevelt. Born in Hyde Park, New York, in 1882, Roosevelt served as a New York state senator (1910–13), assistant secretary of the Navy (1913–20), and as governor of New York (1929–32). In 1932, Roosevelt was elected the thirty-second president of the United States (1933-45). He was re-elected in 1936, 1940, and 1944, the only president to serve more than two terms. Roosevelt died at the beginning of his fourth term on April 12, 1945.
