The physical and intellectual state of a special collection when it is not yet prepared for use by the public.

Unprocessed special collections in the Music Division have collection-level records in the LC Online Catalog.
Processed collections have finding aids available in addition to collection-level catalog records.
Collection-level records in the LC Online Catalog will include the word "Unprocessed" in the record's Notes field and in the Call Number field.
The Performing Arts Reading Room does allow public access to unprocessed collections with advance notice of at least two weeks.
