In July, 1881 at the 15th National Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic, a pair of resolutions were passed that approved of the creation of a national Woman's Relief Corps External. The corps was organized in Denver, Colorado, July 25 and 26, 1883, as "Woman's Relief Corps, Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic." It was incorporated in September, 1922 as the "National Woman's Relief Corps."
