Dr. István Barankovics (1906-1974) was a Hungarian journalist and politician who left Hungary in 1949 and emigrated to the U.S. In Hungary he tried to influence politics on behalf of landless rural people and those who had lower incomes. He was a Christian and social democrat, and was part of the ruling coalition until 1948, but he became unwelcome when communists took power.

Imre Széchényi was one of the most active Hungarian reformers of agriculture. After he completed his education in Hungary he took a study trip to the United States. His letters from that trip were published in periodicals of the time.

Letters by a Hungarian exile and scientist who accompanied a railroad survey throughout the Southwest and California. Xántus describes his travels, including his encounters with tribes of American Indians. He was trained in collecting scientific specimens, and later contributed specimens to the Smithsonian Institution. The book includes brief vocabularies of the language of the Comanche and Wichita Indians.
