Notes: Francesco Biamonte (1891-1955) founded this paper with weekly frequency to serve the Italian immigrants in Indiana (Pennsylvania), a town northeast of Pittsburg known for its coal mines, mills, and railroads that attracted Italian immigrants as well as other European immigrants. The purpose of the paper was to provide information for immigrants on ways of adjusting to their new life. The Patriot launched on August 8, 1914, with a front page greeting “Il Nostro Saluto” declaring its apolitical brand but underlining that important issues of the time would find their way on the newspaper's pages. A significant column titled “Questions that a Good Citizen Should Know,” later “Voter’s Catechism” was dedicated to citizenship matters. The paper was constituted of four pages in English followed by four pages in Italian.
