Notes: The Patriot was a weekly newspaper founded and edited by Francesco Biamonte (1891-1955). Though it started as a bilingual newspaper--four pages in English followed by four in Italian--it was printed mostly in English by 1929. It claimed to be politically independent, it promoted patriotism and strong support for the war effort, during WWI.

Notes: La Ragione was a short-lived weekly newspaper that had only eight issues between April 25 and August 23, 1917. It was founded and edited by Francesco Silvagni in support of Giovanni Di Silvestro (1879-1958) and the Order of the Sons of Italy in America (OSIA). OSIA was the oldest Italian American fraternal organization in the United States that supported Mussolini during World War I. Silvani used the paper to strengthen his opposition against Charles Carmine Antonio Baldi, Sr. (1862-1930) editor of L'Opinione, another Italian American newspaper for Philadelphia's immigrant community.
