The database provides content summaries, tables of contents, and/or author information for books published after 1986 (but information for prewar monographs is especially noteworthy). “Bungei Shunju Archives” covers the first 25 years (1923-1950) of "Bungei Shunju," a monthly magazine established by Kikuchi Kan (1888-1948), a distinguished author, playwright, and editor. Over its first several years, the magazine mainly featured literary works and essays by novelists, many of whom gained prominence as leading writers of 20th-century Japan. KBooks Bungeishunju Archives consists of a full collection of all 323 issues of Bungeishunju from the first issue to December 1950 (excluding special issues). The Koseisha Database provides indexing to journal/periodical articles published in Japanese from the early Meiji period (1868-1912) to the present, including academic journals and popular (general interest) magazines. The database merges data from CiNii (Citation Information by the National Institute of Informatics), a database of journal articles and research bulletins by academic institutions and societies. It also covers Zasshi Kiji Sakuin-Japanese Periodicals Index by the National Diet Library, Japan.

This archive contains the papers of Minoru Kusudu (1964-2003), secretary and advisor of Prime Minister Eisaku Sato (1902-1975), the longest-serving prime minister of postwar Japan (1964-1972), the longest of any Japanese PM since the end of World War II. The collection includes:

• Part I includes primary documents from the highest level of government of the Sato Administration, including a number of documents classified as Top Secret or higher and documents pertaining to Japan-U.S. security relations, in particular the presence of U.S. military forces on the island of Okinawa.


• Part II begins with the Kishi and Ikeda administrations, which preceded the appointment of Kusuda as chief secretary, and continues with various documents from the Sato administration as addenda to Part I. The Mainichi Shimbun 毎⽇新聞 (“Daily News”) is the oldest existing Japanese daily newspaper with a history spanning over 140 years. During the transformative years of the Meiji era (1868-1912), two newspapers were established: the Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shimbun 東京日日新聞, in 1872, and the Osaka Nippo大阪日報, in 1876. The two papers merged in 1911 and were placed under the Mainichi Shimbun masthead in 1943. The "Maisaku" database provides access to over 6 million articles from Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shimbun, Osaka Nippo, and Mainichi Shimbun from 1872 to the present and from the Mainichi Weekly Economist from 1989 to the present. This database provides virtual access to the Edward Sylvester Morse Collection from the Phillips Library at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts. Edward Sylvester Morse (1838-1925) was a polymath notable for his work in natural history, ethnography and art history and was one of the first American scientists to work extensively in Japan. His collection of Japanese art and artifacts contributed to the early study and appreciation of Japanese culture in the United States. His personal and professional papers, available through this database, feature rare and ephemeral material on a variety of subjects, including archaeology, art, astronomy, ethnology, religion and zoology, as well as writings that shed light on his desire to encourage the appreciation of Asian culture among an American audience.

Rafu Shimpo is the longest running Japanese American newspaper in the United States. The paper began in 1903 supporting the small but growing Japanese community in the Little Tokyo area of Los Angeles, California. By the 1940s it was the most widely circulated paper in the region and included a weekly English section for second generation Japanese Americans. Rafu Shimpo was completely suspended from 1942-1945, and no issues were produced. The Rafu Shimpo Digital Archive contains all obtainable published issues from 1914 through 2017. Included is an institutional subscription to rafu.com that allows for full access to the present day. The archive will grow with additional years’ worth of content added annually.

The Sports Industry History Database is a full-text database of the first sporting good trade newspaper in Japan, which started its publication in 1948. It is essentially the ONLY specialized newspaper resource available to study the development of sports, the sports industry, and sporting goods trade in Japan. In addition, this archival collection is not held at any institutions or libraries, including the National Diet Library, Japan; it is only available from the publisher of the newspaper itself. The full-text contents includes 900 issues of this newspaper and be searched by keywords.

Taiwan Nichinichi Shinpo (Taiwan Daily News) was the official and most prominent Japanese newspaper in Taiwan during the colonial period from 1895-1944. It has keyword search and browse by date capabilities. The full-text electronic resource is produced by Han Zhen Corporation (i.e. Transmission Books & Microinfo) in Taipei, based on the microfilms by Yumani in Japan.

This digital collection contains a complete set of 5,800 issues spanning the years 1895 to 2015 for Tōyō keizai shinpō 東洋経済新報 / Shūkan Tōyō Keizai 週刋東洋経済, one of Japan's leading magazines devoted to economic and business news. Topics covered by this periodical also extend to politics, diplomacy, contemporary social issues, and the media, among others. Issues from 1995 and earlier can be searched by terms found in the title of an article or an author’s name. Issues from 1996 and later, meanwhile, feature full-text searching.

Yomidas Rekishikan is an online database of over 11 million articles from every issue of Japans most trusted newspaper, Yomiuri Shimbun, since its first issue in 1874. The database has four parts: 1) the Meiji, Taisho and Showa Eras section (1874-1989), containing scans of the articles as they appeared in the original print editions 2) the Heisei Era section (September 1986 onwards), presenting articles in a text view, as well as a clipping view of the original article (December 2008 onwards) 3) the Daily Yomiuri section (September 1989 onwards), cataloging articles which have appeared in the Yomiuri Shimbuns English publication and 4) the Contemporary Whos Who, with searchable biographical data on over 26,000 prominent individuals as well as articles which pertain to them.
