This section of the guide includes search strategies to locate printed notated music scores by Jewish composers in the Music Division. The Library of Congress Music Classification Schedule determines call numbers by instrumentation and composer. Call numbers for printed music begin with M (Music). The Library of Congress Online Catalog is the primary discovery tool for finding music scores.
Search for a Jewish composer's name in the Library of Congress Online Catalog or Performing Arts Reading Room card catalog (only available on site). Then, determine if that composer wrote music for the instrumentation you seek.
Examples of search results for individual composers may include:
M289 is the call number range for separate works for two wind instruments.
Jacobo Ficher (1896-1978) was a Russian-born Jewish Argentine composer.
M452 is the call number range for string quartets (two violins, viola, and violoncello).
Stefan Wolpe (1902-1972) was a German-born Jewish American composer.
M1124 is the call number range for clarinet concertos with string orchestra.
Betty Olivero (b. 1954) is a Jewish Israeli composer.
