Latin American Business and Economics Resources

This guide provides resources for researchers of Latin American businesses and economies including economic history of the region, and current economic conditions that cover both the entire region and individual countries.

Introduction

United States. Central Intelligence Agency. Latin America. 2006. Library of Congress Geography and Map Division.

This guide pulls together information resources for researchers of Latin American businesses and economies including print and online resources, subscription databases, online news sources, business directories, recent history sources, and other major digital resources. The resources are arranged both by topic and geographic location to allow for country specific research. It is highly recommended that resources provided in the general section of the guide also be searched for country information.

The majority of the resources in this guide are freely available on the Internet. Some of the resources are subscription-based and are available only to researchers working onsite at the Library of Congress or from another subscribing institution. These databases may be available to you from your local university or research institution—please check with your business and economics librarian.

This guide is not an exhaustive list of resources but rather a good starting point for Latin American business and economics research. It includes a sampling of print and manuscript resources available from the vast Latin American collections of the Library of Congress. To expand your research, please use the Search the Library's Catalog page that explains how to search for more materials in business and economics topics for this region.

There are a number of resources in the guide that are only in Spanish or Portuguese. Any online resource that requires the researcher to have a command of the languages are marked with Spanish interface or Portuguese interface.

Please send research questions within the scope of this guide to Ask-A-Business Librarian. For questions on other academic disciplines on Latin America please send questions to the Caribbean, Iberian, and Latin American Studies reference specialists.
