California has a bicameral legislature, named the California State Legislature, which consists of the California State Assembly and the California State Senate. The Assembly has 80 members representing 80 districts, with members serving a two-year term. The Senate has 40 members representing 40 districts, each serving a four-year term. Members of the California State Legislature can serve for a combined 12 years in both chambers.
