In Illinois, the judiciary has three general levels. The Circuit Court is the trial court of general jurisdiction. The Illinois Appellate Court acts as the intermediate appellate court. The Illinois Supreme Court is the highest court in the state.

Illinois is part of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Illinois has three federal district courts, the U.S. Federal District Courts for the Northern, Southern, and Central Districts of Illinois. Each district also has a corresponding Bankruptcy Court.
