In Iowa, the judiciary has three general levels. The State District Court is the trial court of general jurisdiction. Within the District Courts there are probate, juvenile, and magistrate judges who exercise limited jurisdiction on certain legal matters. The Iowa Court of Appeals acts as the intermediate appellate court. The Iowa Supreme Court is the highest court in the state.
