The Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, a national association of civil rights organizations, was founded 1949-1950 by Roy Wilkins (chairman), A. Philip Randolph, and Arnold Aronson. The records include correspondence, memoranda, minutes, notes of meetings, position papers, reports, financial records, congressional testimony, clippings, printed material, and other records documenting efforts by the organization to lobby for and monitor enforcement of civil rights legislation at the national level. Of particular interest are files relating to gay and lesbian civil rights and the Gay Rights National Lobby.

National American Woman Suffrage Association formed in February 1919; in 1920 the association's section, League of Women Voters, became an independent organization under the name National League of Women Voters (later the League of Women Voters of the United States). Of particular interest are files related to the Equal Rights Amendment Campaign.

Artists' colony in Peterborough, N.H., founded in 1908 by Marian MacDowell in memory of her husband, American composer Edward MacDowell (1860-1908). Materials relating to prominent artists such as Aaron Copland and Thornton Wilder are included in the collection.

The records of the NAACP, civil rights organization, include some materials related to gay rights. Restrictions apply.

Reports relating to persons arrested as a result of the society’s actions, including notations by Anthony Comstock, secretary of the society (1873-1915), and records relating to the society’s predecessor, the Young Men’s Christian Association of the City of New York Committee for the Suppression of Vice.

Service Academy Gay And Lesbian Alumni (SAGALA) is an alumni organization dedicated to service, education, and networking. Founded in 1992 with members who attended as cadets or midshipmen one of the five federal service academies, West Point, Annapolis, the US Air Force Academy, the US Coast Guard Academy, and the US Merchant Marine Academy. *NOTE: The collection is not yet processed, restrictions apply.
