Researchers can freely view Victor Lundy's World War II sketchbooks in digitized form online. In some cases the physical sketchbooks can be viewed in person by appointment. Provided below is information about how to view the sketchbooks online, and how researchers can arrange on-site viewing.

Viewing the sketchbooks online

Victor Lundy's eight World War II sketchbooks were digitized in 2010. This section describes how to access the digital images in different arrangements.

The description for LOT 14007 describes the group of sketchbooks and links to all the pages, including covers and introductory pages without sketches. Each sketchbook generally gives the range of action on the second page, e.g. “En route to Europe, August 28-September 2, 1944.” Combining "LOT 14007" with a month can narrow down results chronologically; for example, ‘LOT 14007' and 'August’ yields drawings from both sketchbooks 4 and 5.

Viewing the original sketchbooks in the Prints & Photographs Reading Room

The original sketchbooks are served by appointment only, because they require special handling. We generally request that for materials already digitized at high resolution, researchers first look at the highest resolution file (tiff file) to gain as much visual information as possible, before requesting to view an original, as retrieving and refiling fragile materials puts added wear and tear on them.
