Cartographic Resources for Genealogical Research: Eastern Europe and Russia

Reference Resources

There exists a variety of resources that can assist us in locating communities in East Central Europe, Eastern Europe, and European Russia. In this section we will address those that have proved useful to Geography and Map Division staff in the past, and those which they rely on to answer inquiries regarding multilingual place names. Increasing amounts of information concerning European ancestry, specific ethnic groups, and regional and national history are being included in the growing number of genealogical databases on the Internet. Those listed here are not exhaustive, but have been selected and included for their utility.
