The ongoing Maryland State Archives publication series, Archives of Maryland Online, currently provides access to over 471,000 historical documents that form the constitutional, legal, legislative, judicial, and administrative basis of Maryland's government.
The Maryland State Archives is the historical agency for Maryland and serves as the central depository for government records. Included in the Archives' holdings are colonial and state executive, legislative, and judicial records; county probate, land and court records; church records; business records; publications and reports of state, county and municipal governments; and special collections of private papers, maps, photographs, and newspapers. The fundamental purpose of the NPS is to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wild life therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations. The NPS provides highlights, statistics, and a list of national parks for Maryland.
Heritage and cultural institutions and individuals from Allegany, Garrett, and Washington counties in Western Maryland have collaborated with WHILBR to digitize materials from their collections and share them through this site.
