Welcome to the home of the “Let’s Talk Books!” video series. On May 14, 2024, Meg Medina launched a new project that connects accomplished children’s authors to families, educators and librarians. The series is intended to spark fun and easy conversations that encourage young readers to discuss and expand their reading lives.
In each “Let’s Talk Books!” video, guest authors book talk a book of their choice, discuss their upbringing and path to a writing career, and offer advice for young learners. As you will see, a book talk may last 30 seconds or even a couple of minutes, but no matter what, each book talk opens a dialogue about the author, their family, their childhood memories, and so much more.
The 18-segment series and its corresponding promotional clips drop monthly, two at a time, on the Library’s YouTube channel External between May 14 through Dec. 10. The videos, running no longer than 8 minutes, are filmed in unique spaces in the Library’s historic Thomas Jefferson Building, including the Young Readers Center and Programs Lab.
You’ll see that “Let’s Talk Books!” models the joy, magic and connection that books bring to our lives. Just like Medina’s tenure as Ambassador, these videos inform our worldview and prove that reading is both special and participatory.
So, what do you say? Are you ready to dive into, try on, and book talk your way through your shelf or local library?
