The fields of art, history, geography, folklife and new technology are all leveraged to preserve and present the layered story of National Heritage Areas. To this purpose, the American Folklife Center has identified multiple resources here at the library which provide insight into the natural, historic, and cultural resources preserved in these national heritage areas.
The Geography and Map Division at the Library of Congress has a number of maps of cities, towns, villages, states, and countries around the world. Of particular interest are the division's maps of National and State Heritage Areas, many of which are available online.
In addition to fieldwork collections within the American Folklife Center's archives, the Library of Congress is home to many other resources related to cultural documentation and preservation, land/resource conservation, and other topics relevant to national heritage areas. These include historic preservation public programs led by other Library divisions, photographic surveys of historic districts, national park archaeological reports, and historic site preservation plans. Included here are selected items from the Library's holdings that pertain to national heritage areas and corridors.
