All descendants of the Holland settlers owe a particular debt of gratitude to Rev. Henricus Selyns, who was minister of the Dutch church from 1682 to 1701. In 1686, for convenient reference, he made a complete list of the members of his church and the streets on which they lived. This list has fortunately been preserved, and was printed in one of the early volumes of the “Collections of the New York Historical Society.” This list gives the names of the church members, also the names of their wives and husbands. It happened in many cases that husbands were church members, while the wives were not, and vice versa. The list is especially valuable, as it furnishes the names of the wife’s father, given in Dutch style. For example, the wife of Paulus Turck was Aeltie Barents, that is, Aeltie, daughter of Barents. In many cases the name of the wife is given, as the wife of Francis Rombout was Helena Teller.

Camp Upton was one of 16 cantonments built to train soldiers quickly upon the United States' entry into World War I in 1917. The camp was located on nearly 20,000 acres of scrub pine forest on the eastern end of Long Island, New York. Later, it was a Civilian Conservation Corps camp and was rebuilt for use in World War II. It is now the site of Brookhaven National Laboratory. It was the home of the 77th "Liberty" Division, whose soldiers, many from the New York area, saw battle in the Argonne Forest in France near the end of the war.
