This selected bibliography provides perspectives of the disaster at the time of the event as well as research compiled in its aftermath. Factual conflicts and personal biases raise red flags throughout many of the period publications. These are important to the understanding of the disaster's impact and the evolution of its story.
Also included are histories of the Oneida's Civil War service to add context and background for the ship's initial tour of duty.
