This list of archival collections is maintained by the Society of American Archivists and is accurate as of 2021. It is organized by state, then by repository, with Canadian repositories listed last.

This is a collaboration between Georgia State University and the University of Maryland. The records include correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, audiovisual recordings, and more, documenting AFL-CIO work between 1943 and 1999.

The records of the American Federation of Labor (AFL) span the years 1883-1925 and consist of letterpress volumes of correspondence of Samuel Gompers (1850-1924) and William Green (1870-1952), presidents of the organization, and by other officials including James Duncan, Gabriel Edmonston, Frank Keyes Foster, and John McBride. Comprising approximately 172,300 items (328,445 images) digitized from previously produced microfilm, the collection relates to the formation of local unions, meetings, charters, bylaws, ethics, publicity, arbitration, AFL's political principles, communism, socialism, anthracite coal strikes of 1897 and 1902, fund-raising, boycotts, and the United Mine Workers, American Railway Union, International Association of Machinists, International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and American Federationist, the AFL's magazine.

In 2013, the AFL-CIO named the University of Maryland Libraries their official repository for records of the American Federation of Labor (AFL), selected records of the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO), and the merged American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). In terms of dates, it covers 1881 to 1955. More specifically it contains the George Meany Memorial AFL-CIO Archive which is approximately 40 million documents and the AFL-CIO Merger Oral History Project collection. It also includes staff oral histories that explore the history of the 1955 merger of the AFL and the CIO.
A related collection also held by the university are publications from the United Farm Workers which includes an incomplete run (circa 1960s and 1970s) of the English-language edition of El Malcriado, a newspaper published by the UFW.

The Wisconsin Historical Society holds some records of the AFL from 1888-1955 including some papers of Presidents Samuel Gompers and William Green as well as other AFL officials and departments including AFL Economist Boris Shishkin, American Federationist editor Florence Thorne, executive secretary Catherine Bauer, the Office of Information and Research, and the head of the Mining Department James Lord. There are also general files on federal and state legislation, industry and labor developments, strikes and agreements, etc.

The Records of the Congress of Industrial Organizations cover 1934-1958 and originated from the main office of the national CIO located in Washington, DC. The collection is broken into seven series:

Series 3: Local Industrial Union Councils, 1936-1956
Series 4: Local Industrial Unions, 1937-1957
Series 5: Central Office Correspondence, 1936-1941

These are the official records for the Department of Labor held by the National Archives & Records Administration.

Includes over 500 recordings that are part of the 20th and 21st century Southern Labor Archives. They also hold material related to the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization.

The collection includes records of unions including the Amalgamated Association of Iron, Steel, and Tin Workers, Pennsylvania Federation of Labor, Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, United Steelworkers of America, Amalgamated Lithographers of America, and the International Photoengravers Union. There are also collections of records for many local unions and central labor bodies in Pennsylvania as well as personal papers for several labor leaders from the United Steelworkers and United Mine Workers, including Philip Murray, David J. McDonald, I. W. Abel, Clinton S. Golden, and William Mitch.

The archives include IBT publications, convention proceedings, documentary materials from the various IBT departments, trade divisions and area conferences, photographs, films, and video/audio tape reels and cassettes. There are digital copies of the film and microfilm material.

Materials in the collection are in the field of industrial and labor relations, including records of labor unions and groups like the Railway Labor Executives' Association Records, as well as personnel managers, government agencies, advocacy groups, and labor scholars. There are historical photographs, oral history interviews, over collective bargaining agreements, dozens of microfilm collections, digital collections, over 250,000 rare pamphlets and union constitutions, and films, posters, and recordings pertaining to labor and management.

This list is a broad collection of labor-related films. With a few exceptions, it has been limited to non-feature films about American labor history. The majority of these films represent pro-labor, pro-union, and sometimes pro-radical viewpoints, as well as few anti-union selections, which are noted as such.

The collection contains more than 300 separate collections of labor-related materials from individuals and organizations. Many of the people and organizations covered operated on the west coast, specifically Washington and Oregon. Of note are the Industrial Workers of the World Records, 1906–1972.

National office records of the OCAW include administrative meeting minutes, reports, and constitutions, as well as material pertaining to locals, strikes, conventions, merger attempts, and the relationship of OCAW to other unions, including the AFL-CIO, United Rubber Workers, the International Chemical Workers Union, the United Paperworkers International Union, the International Federation of Petroleum and Chemical Workers and the International Labor Organization. Covers primarily the years 1934 - 1995.

This collection documents the history of labor, the Left, political radicalism, and social movements in the United States.

This collection contains photographs of members and leaders, including those that were published in the United Mine Workers Journal, and every UMW Journal. There are also meeting and session minutes of the International Executive Board from the union’s founding in 1890 to 1982.

This is a large collection of United Auto Workers (UAW) material. It holds more than 2000 collections related to such topics as union history and working class organizations, African Americans and women in the labor movement, as well as radical, social, and political reform movements. Collections also focus on the history of twentieth century Detroit.
Other papers held include: the papers for Quarrymen's National Union of the United States of America'/United Stone and Allied Products Workers of America; National Association of Letter Carriers; AFSCME; UFW Office of the President (César Chávez Records documents Chávez's beginnings with the CSO and the formative years of the NFWA, United Farm Workers Organizing Committee); Industrial Workers of the World Archives with over 40 archival collections spanning 1903–1996, etc.

The library contains contains more than 3,000 union periodicals, newspaper of more than 60 national unions, as well as the James Taylor Collection of valuable and historical materials.
