The American Music Creators Web Archive is a collection of websites of musicians, performers, and composers contributing to the American music scene. The collection strives to be representative of all genres of music, including jazz, classical, country, rock, Latin American, hip hop, rap, R&B, blues, EDM, heavy metal, bluegrass and many more. Sites include artists on major labels and those on independent labels or creating music and publishing it online. Biographies, event dates, appearances, music tracks, images, videos, social networks and merchandise are represented on these sites.

The American Music Industry Web Archive captures the websites of individuals and companies that represent music creators and are involved broadly in the business of music. This includes mainstream and independent record labels and studios, music journalists and critics, and retail music sites. The goal of the collection is to document in what way music is created, discussed, promoted and consumed and how those interactions change over time.

Brazilian chapbooks, known as literatura de cordel, are typically sold at street fairs, where the pamphlets are hung by string (cordel in Portuguese). They are a grassroots form of communication whose purpose is both education and entertainment. Cordel pamphlets serve the community by alerting them to health concerns such as dengue fever. They provide entertainment in the re- telling of folk tales and more importantly, they chronicle political, social, and cultural events. In addition to the poet (cordelista) who writes the text, there is often an artist who creates a woodblock print as cover illustration. The third player is the repentista, a singer who improvises verses accompanied by a guitar and/or an accordion, often as a duet. Today these chapbooks continue to serve as a conduit for popular opinion, but they are increasingly in digital form. The Library’s Brazilian chapbook collection is one of the largest in the world, including more than 11,000 items, some as early as the 1930s. This web archive collection is comprised of sites or blogs containing full-text cordel, video or audio clips of repentista performances, and news about cordel-related events. It is important to preserve cordel blogs because they serve a different purpose - to represent the voice of the blogger rather than the organization that sponsored the website.

The Coronavirus Web Archive contains representative web-based content that documents the impact and response to the Covid-19 pandemic on communities across the United States and the world. This collection was curated by subject specialists from across the Library in order to present a multidisciplinary collection. Subjects and creators include: federal, state, local, and tribal government; science and technology; economics and labor; arts and culture; public and social policy; education; psychology; sports and recreation; and religion. African American, Asian American, Latino/a/x, and Native American communities are reflected in this collection as both web content creators and marginalized populations impacted by the pandemic. A sample of coronavirus content from Asia, South America, Africa, Europe, and Oceania is also featured in the collection.

The Web Cultures Web Archive includes sites documenting the creation and sharing of emergent cultural traditions on the web. The mission of the American Folklife Center is to document traditional cultural forms and practices, and the proliferation of smart phones, tablets, and wireless Internet connections has positioned networked communication as a space where people increasingly develop and share folklore. This collection, co-curated with scholars who study digital culture, captures a set of websites that document elements of the various digital vernaculars enabled through networked and computer-mediated communication. These sites comprise a wide range of everyday communication enacted by communities to create a shared sense of the world: reaction GIFs, image macros and memes; online communities that have established, shaped and disseminated communication tropes and themes; sites that document, establish and/or define vernacular language and icon-based communications, such as emoji and memes through Know Your Meme and Giphy; sites connected to DIY (do it yourself) movements of crafting and making; sites focused on documentation, development, proliferation, distribution and discussion of digital “urban legends” and lore, such as Creepypasta; and sites that focus on the development and dissemination of vernacular creative forms, such as fan fiction. The Web Cultures Web Archive offers a representative sampling of the collective cultural creation and self-documentation characterizing vernacular spaces on the World Wide Web, and, like many of those spaces, is in process. The American Folklife Center will continue to add to these collections, developing archival holdings that reflect the dynamic nature of the web itself.
